"A Japanese Painter Who Fell in Love with Monet : At 80, He Takes on 'Water Lilies'"
Ever since encountering Monet's Water Lilies at the Musée de l'Orangerie, Japanese painter Reiji Hiramatsu has spent the last 30 years emulating the Impressionist master Claude Monet. He has visited the gardens of Giverny countless times, created his own water lily pond in Karuizawa, and produced thousands of sketches.
He finally completed his Water Lily Symphony, a 90 -meter-long work on the same scale as his famous Water Lilies. This work was unveiled at a solo exhibition at the Musée des Impressionismes in Giverny, the holy land of Impressionism, in the commemorative year of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Impressionism .
This is a documentary program that follows the journey of a painter who has a deep respect for Monet and continues to take on new challenges.
